There are two types of Civil Service Examinations (CSE) that the Civil Service Commission (CSC) administers for those who aspire to be full-pledge government workers.
1. Professional Eligibility
The Career Service Professional Eligibility is given to those who passed the CSE Professional Level test. It is a second-level eligibility appropriate for technical positions that do not require the practice of the profession and are not covered by special/other laws such as a lawyer, certified public accountant, and engineer.
The exam for the Professional level is designed for takers who have completed a four-year degree course. It covers a broad range of topics such as English language and comprehension, mathematics, logic and reasoning, and general information on the Philippine Constitution, Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees, Peace and Human Rights Issues and Concepts, and Environment Management and Protection. With 170 items, the exam shall be taken within 3 hours and 10 minutes.
2. Sub-Professional Eligibility
The Sub-Professional Eligibility is appropriate for clerical positions in the government sector. You can take the test even if you are yet to complete your college degree as long as you are 18 years old at the time of application.
The exam coverage for the Sub-Professional level is almost the same. The only difference is that instead of logic and reasoning, takers of the Sub-Professional Exam have to answer clerical operations. The test has 165 items with a time limit of 2 hours and 40 minutes.
Regardless of what level of exam you will take, you need to prepare well to achieve a passing rate of 80%. To help you with the CSE, here are some helpful reminders you may consider:

- Get enough rest and eat well before the exam.
- Read the instructions and questions carefully.
- Trust yourself and your abilities.
